Turning an existing logo into a dynamic visual identity and product code system to empower transparent energy consumption.

OVERVIEW

I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate) are an energy tracking foundation and governing body for energy standardisation, originally tracking renewable energy.

As I-REC's capabilities expanded to include tracking all types of energy, it became evident that a brand refresh was necessary to reflect this positive shift.

We delivered a new name, I-TRACK (International Tracking Standard Foundation), a brand structure through updated brand pillars, a visual identity and product code logos.

Exploration

From the outset of this project, it was clear that their existing logomark was a favourite aspect of their current identity. The agreed solution was not to alter the logo, but to extend its use and make it a core part of I-TRACK's visual output. Integrating the logomark with energy photography and typography creates visual consistency across all design applications. Therefore, in order to maintain their logomark whilst refreshing the identity, I experimented with and presented two logo identities, one with a mono-colour version and another version using two rotating tracks.

Below is some development work using the two logo options which were presented to the client after the exploration phase.

Outcome

The decision was made to utilise the mono-colour version across the identity. The next phase of the project was the challenging, they needed multiple logo types to represent different types of product certification. These logos needed

to be consistent yet diverse and flexible enough to incorporate several energy standards.

I designed product logos that would be distinguishable between each other, but still consistent with their core logo.

Using one of florette arms to create a broken circle that holds the acronym, as though tracking from one source to another.

Colour was also the optimal solution because it visually categorises each product for quick identification. The varied colour palette not only represents the products they currently certify but also those they may certify in the future.
